The goal is to finally get everyone who doesn’t truly know Brooklyn, to stop calling the borough “hipster central.” We now might have some pretty solid evidence to accompany this fact (as if we truly need it).
A new list that ranks the most has shown that the most hipster city in America is in fact NOT Brooklyn, but Hoboken, New Jersey, thanks to FindTheBeast.com. According to the website, the latest ranking was determined by four attributes that define a “hipster city.” FYI—a hipster is a subculture, typically made up of white millennials living in urban areas and a total of 19 cities across the United States fit into this description. Get this, Brooklyn is not one of them!
FindTheBeast used cities that have a population with over 50,000 people that also had a high population of people between the ages of 20 and 34 (the millennial). They also observed cities were a high percentage of residents earned at least a Bachelor’s Degree, a huge number of cafes and an exceptional amount of yoga studios. They calculated a median score for each city by multiplying the number of yoga studios per 10,000 people with cafes per 10,000 people, and used the outcome to rank the cities.
Hoboken, NJ leads the pack of what seems to be predominantly college towns and probably why they had a higher millennial population:
- Hoboken, NJ
- Ames, Iowa
- Boulder, Colorado
- Cambridge, Massachusetts
- College Station, Texas
- Somerville, Massachusetts
- Arlington, Virginia
- Auburn, Alabama
- Santa Monica, California
- Davis, California
- Berkeley, California
- Provo, Utah
- Bloomington, Indiana
- Seattle, Washington
- Ann Arbor, Michigan
- San Francisco, California
- Iowa City, Iowa
- West Des Moines, Iowa
- Corvallis, Oregon

Need more evidence that Williamsburg is probably the only major hub for hipsters? Step outside of your house if you live here, if you don’t actually visit the borough and see for yourself. Brooklyn is NOT Hipsterland!
