The Brooklyn Nets really needed this win and early on it seemed like they were out to get it. The Nets simply ran out of gas and two crucial injuries didn’t help their cause. The Pelicans would then take advantage of the Brooklyn team’s misfortune and blow them out at home.
Anthony Davis opened the game with a smooth jumper, countered with a Thaddeus Young lay up and a 3-point shot. Young scored the first 7-points for the Nets showing that he can get the job done offensively. Brooklyn portrayed great defense on the other side of the floor with multiple blocked shots, closeouts and defensive rebounds. They would go on a 9-2 run before a Pelicans time out. The Nets started looking like that team we fell in love with in after the All-Star break as the Brooklyn lead grew, 19-8 Nets. The Nets would show fluid ball movement, getting to the guys down in the post or their sweet spot. New Orleans would go on a 12-2 run to end the quarter and cut the Nets lead to 4, 27-23.
2nd quarter begun with stagnant scoring for both teams, with Brooklyn put up the first points of the quarter minutes into the quarter. New Orleans would eventually tie the game at 38 a piece only for Brooklyn to regain it with a fast break dunk via Cory Jefferson. Alan Anderson would attempt a lay-up but would go down hard on the play without managing to break his fall. He seemed to be ok after a quick time out. Brooklyn would struggle a bit as New Orleans would take a 6 point lead, the first since 2-0, 49-43. Brooklyn would surrender a 14 point lead to New Orleans as they knocked down two consecutive 3’s and take a 9 point lead going into the half, 55-46 Pelicans.
3rd quarter started with the Nets missing every shot they attempted in 5 minutes. Things would soon turn from bad to worse as rookie Markel Brown would go down with a right ankle injury. During halftime the Nets learned that Alan Anderson would not return to the game due to a bruised tail bone. Nothing was going right for the Nets as New Orleans took advantage and took a 22-point lead, 75-53 Pelicans. Pelicans would maintain their big lead at 17, 78-61.
4th quarter would lead with another injury, this time with the Pelicans’ Anthony Davis. Yet, things just couldn’t get moving for the Nets and would be blown out at home to close the game. Final score 111-91.
This makes four straight losses at home and the Nets are out of sorts. Nets will face the Heat in Miami tomorrow night.
