It’s amazing how time flies. Today marks five years since Michael Jackson’s passing. June 25, 2009 will always be a day forever remembered in the world as we lost a true icon, a man who was able to take music to another level and truly set the bar high. While we remember his legacy, we are excited that Brooklyn got to be a part of Jackson’s history.

Back in November of 1986, Michael Jackson filmed his famous video for “BAD” right here in Brooklyn, New York. The video was shot inside of the Hoyt-Schermerhorn train station and was released alongside an 18 minute short film. Both the video and the film were directed by Martin Scorsese. Both the film and the video took a span of six weeks to make. The short film follows Jackson’s character, Daryl as he returns home from a private high school and shows that he still has some toughness left in him.

After Jackson’s death in 2009, then council woman, Leticia James tried to have the MTA honor Jackson by renaming or co-naming Hoyt-Schermerhorn street train station or at least hang a plaque in his honor. That was quickly shut down.
