Tonight’s NBA matchup came to us from inside Barclays Center as the Brooklyn Nets (16-21) hosted the Houston Rockets (26-11). It would be Dwight Howard’s 1st ever appearance in Brooklyn and the Nets would come in tonight losing 5 straight games. This one brought the drama early and frustration later on as the Rockets would show their strength offensively. Let’s get to the action.
1st quarter action started off with heavy offense and defense on both sides but Houston would break away with 3 pointers. Everything would come to an immediate stop as Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard would get into an altercation. KG complained about a call then lightly shoved Howard. Howard then lightly shoves KG. KG throws the ball at Howard then Howard tells KG “What you gon do?” So KG replied with a headbutt. Howard then slaps KG in the neck as multiple people had to calm KG down as he tried to repeatedly get to Howard. KG was then ejected from the game to the displeasure of the Brooklyn crowd. Howard would only receive a technical foul. Jay-Z and Beyonce would show up after the incident as Houston was up 31-24. James Harden would continue to be a beast and get knock his shots down. Nets are down 28-37 to end the 1st.
In the 2nd, Houston would knock down shot and balloon their lead to 12. Brooklyn however, would create turnovers and have fast break point’s curtesy of Bojan Bogdanovic. Nets would cut the deficit in half, 41-47. The crowd would continue to boo Howard at every touch of the ball. Nets would come within 2 on a Joe Johnson 3, 48-50. A lot of missed dunks in this one so far for both teams. Houston would distance themselves from the Nets by 8 and the end of the half, 60-52.
3rd quarter started with Houston once again showing off their offensive prowess hitting 2 consecutive 3 pointers. Both teams registered 12 turnovers while Houston was up 73-62. The Rockets would simply hit 3 pointers or get to the foul line every time the Nets would try to make a run. Houston would take a 16 point lead, 82-66.
4th quarter action now and the Houston Rockets would show Brooklyn their range from behind the arc. The Rockets were 15/33 from 3 point range while the Nets were a dismal 3/16. Brooklyn tried to go on a run but Houston responded in 3’s yet again. The game mercifully ended as the Nets lost their 6th straight game, 113-99.
