A serial mugger is NYPD’s main suspect in the recent vicious attacks on elderly women in both Brooklyn and Queens. The man, described by authorities as black, 40 to 60 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 250 pounds, is considered to be armed and dangerous and everyone needs to be on the lookout.

In an attack earlier this month, the suspect followed a 91-year-old woman to her home in Park Slope. Authorities say he followed the woman, forced his way into her home, and then choked her while holding a gun to her head. Police believes that the bandit has returned as more recently, the suspect approached an 81-year old woman with a boxcutter near Prospect Place and Carlton Avenue and demanded money. The suspect is believed to be tied to at least four other incidents with elderly women, dating back to several months.

“It just makes you more vigilant, like when you’re coming home late at night. Make sure you watch behind your back, and make sure people aren’t coming behind you when you’re walking into your house. It is really alarming,” Carmen Lalonde, a Brooklyn resident, told ABC 7.

Some Brooklyn residents are not surprised as to where the suspect chooses to find his bait. He seems to stick to what’s considered the “safer” neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

“A very nice neighborhood is sometimes a good neighborhood for people to perpetrate crimes, because you think you’re safe, so you think you don’t have to take extra steps to watch your surroundings,” Patton adds.

The suspect usually ends up fleeing the scene with hundreds of dollars in cash.

  4. If a repairman/salesman knocks at the door, ask what company they work for and call to verify.
  5. Add a whistle or alarm to their keys that can be easily activated the moment they feel threatened.
  6. Never have anything valuable in plain view.
