The experiment in Dallas that brought Rajon Rondo from Boston to play with Dirk Nowitzki has officially ended with poor results.
Rondo wearing blue has been nothing short of a disappointment. It’s no secret that he doesn’t get along well with Mavericks Head coach Rick Carlisle, a well respected coach league wide. The feeling is probably mutual with Carlisle if you ask him. During the Western Conference Playoff series against the Houston Rockets, Rondo has looked to be very uninterested in playing and looks to have quit on his coach. The Mavericks’ fans are over him and its safe to say that Rondo is done with his short stint in Dallas. At the end of this season Rondo will become a free agent and will plenty of teams to chose from. What has limited his availability to teams is his value and size of his potential future contracts. That road block has evaporated into thin air in less than 3 months.
As reported by ESPN, Rajon Rondo has suffered a back injury that will put him out of action indefinitely. Accompany that with his horrible play and effort seen on world wide television and you have a better than average point guard available next season for minimal dollars. Rondo will be a free agent next season and will look to play elsewhere. Rondo may have been looking to get paid this off season and he still will but it wont be anything near what he once expected. A good point guard for cheap is always helpful. That’s something the Brooklyn Nets desperately need as paraphrased by both Head Coach Lionel Hollins and General Manager Billy King of the Brooklyn Nets. It’s no secret that the Nets don’t have money; primarily due to the large contracts of Joe Johnson and Deron Williams, but if you can finally get a house hold name like Rondo on your team for a couple of million wouldn’t you do it?

Rondo is a guy who can get the basket whenever he feels like. He can run, he can defend, he pass and steal the ball. His jump shot is a little weak but thats ok when you can have shooters like Mirza Teletovic and Bojan Bogdanovic surrounding you. The Nets have a ton of moves to make this off-season to keep their promise of building a better and younger team. Deron Williams plays very well in Dallas and it was actually his first choice of teams to go to. If the Nets can send him off to Dallas somehow, that would open up a wide range of options the Nets haven’t had in years. Cap space would be under control and more players could be acquired. Dallas wants a point guard that wants to play for them with heart and effort while Brooklyn needs a good point guard without the financial burden. Look no further than Rajon Rondo. But be aware, more desperate teams like the Knicks and the Lakers are also realizing that he can be acquired for little next to nothing.
