Summers are always filled with activity and tons of fun, but a Brooklyn summer is organic and filled with lots of love. On Saturday, in celebration of 25 years of “Do The Right Thing”, famed Director Spike Lee brought the entire New York City to join him in Bed-Stuy for an old school block party. Amongst the shoulder-to-shoulder crowd were some of the best celebrity entertainers like Dave Chapelle, Erykah Badu, Wesley Snipes, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Chuck D and of course Mr. Lee himself.
To capture the entire feel of the historic movie, the celebration was held on Stuyvesant and Lexington Avenues, the same location that the movie was filmed. Borough President Eric Adams also came out to celebrate and to present Lee with one of the ultimate borough honors. Adams presented Lee with a Proclamation, stating that June 28th is now “Do The Right Thing Day” in Brooklyn. Pretty much like the key to the borough, but not exactly.
There was also the unveiling of “Do The Right Thing Way” on the corner of Stuyvesant and Lexington.
