Music is one of the most important elements of life. The perfect track can bring you back to a fond memory of your past, the happiness in your present or excitment for your future. Now imagine the experience of seeing your favorite artist perform the songs that give your those same feelings LIVE amongst thousands of people singing along — with you being the loudest of course.
With the Barclays Center fresh off of their three year anniversary, we have some suggestions for artists we’d love to see perform and bless the stage. The Barclays Center has become a staple here in Brooklyn. It’s even becoming comparable to what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris. The arena is iconic!
Here are 7 music artists who we would love to see headline their own show at Barclays Center sooner than later, along with some fun facts about them:
1. Toni Braxton
R&B singer and songwriter who has world hits such as “Un-Break My Heart”, and “Breathe Again”. She was the first female to sign with LaFace Records. She also made history again as the first black actress to play Belle in the Broadway production Beauty and the Beast. To date, she has won seven Grammy awards, nine Billboard Music awards, seven American Music awards, and several others. How about a Toni and Tamar duet in Brooklyn? It would be pretty classic.
2. Celine Dion
French Canadian singer who is the second highest earning musician. By the time she was 18 years old, she had already recorded nine French albums and won several awards. Her most popular song for the timeless iconic film, “Titanic”, “My Heart Will Go On” is her most popular song to date.
3. Justine Skye
Brooklyn-born rising star, whose favorite candy is Skittles, made her way into our hearts with her cover of Drake’s “Headlines” on YouTube. The video alone has well over a hundred thousand views and her follow up EP’s are enough for us to want her to headline in her hometown.

4. Monica
With hits like “Angel of Mine” & “The Boy Is Mine,” Monica has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, including over 10 million units in the United States alone. Monica also has a new album, “Code Red” on the way, so a tour could be in the near future. Don’t forget Brooklyn, Monica.
5. Lauryn Hill
Hill became the first woman to receive 10 Grammy nominations, and the first to take home five awards, including Best New Artist, at the 41st Grammy Awards in 1999. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was the first album to receive a XXL rating by XXL magazine. Imagine the icon performing “That Thing”, who’s video was shot in Brooklyn, by the way, on the Barclays Center stage.
6. U2
A band that has successfully been around since the 70’s, they are honestly one of the hardest working bands around. U2 have won a total of 20 Grammy Awards and counting to date.
7. Taylor Swift
In 2009 Taylor Swift made country music history by selling more digital downloads than any other country artist — ever. She sold over 20 million hits worldwide. In 2013, she became the second person (and first woman) to receive the Country Music Association’s Pinnacle Award. Would totally be cool to see the “Bad Blood” singer in Brooklyn.
