Dave Chappelle’s Block Party
1301 Riegelmann Boardwalk at Place to Beach
Time: 6pm – Midnight
Price: $12
Hosted by author of Making Rent in Bed-Stuy, Brandon Harris, this screening is both concert and film in one. The film follows comedian Dave Chappelle, as he loads up a bus with famed French director Michel Gondry and band members from the marching group at the local historically black college Central State and ventures to the corner of Quincy & Downing Street’s in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where he has quite the party planned. In front of the Broken Angel House, a phantasmagorical DIY hall of wonders that was owned by an elderly white couple and has since become ever more needless condos for rich folks, the travelers enjoy a concert featuring Kanye West, the Fugees, Big Daddy Kane, Lauren Hill, Erykah Badu, John Legend and and others in the days before everyone spent their time at these sorts of events just filming through there cell phones.
