Surprise albums and unexpected releases seem to be the new way in dropping new music and Brooklyn’s own Talib Kweli has joined in on the fun. Over the weekend the lyrical activist tweeted, “Yall love free sh*t. A MILLION of Yall downloaded my free album #f*ckthemoney at kweliclub.com Yall ain’t sh*t jk,” in reference to his latest free LP.
Though Kweli has released free music in the past, he’s recently addressed how the public doesn’t purchase music anymore, thus releasing another no cost project. “People don’t buy music, they’d rather stream and pay money to streaming companies,” Kweli said on Real Time With Bill Maher. “It’s convenient. As horrible as it is, it’s my responsibility to do something about it.”
