Azealia Banks To Star In New Brooklyn-Based Musical 'Coco'

Pretty soon, you might catch the controversial rapstress Azealia Banks, roaming the streets of Brooklyn.

RZA, formally of Wu-Tang clan and Banks have teamed up for a new Brooklyn-set musical drama, Coco. The all-star cast of the new movie, directed by RZA and starring Azealia Banks, also includes Jill Scott, Common and Lorraine Toussaint, the dynamic actress who plays Vee on Orange Is the New Black.

“I’m extremely excited and vigorously inspired to be working with Azealia Banks in my new directorial installment,” RZA said in a statement. “Producer Paul Hall and I have assembled a cool and eclectic cast to surround Azealia. Our story, which is set in today’s contemporary youth culture, will bring a new voice to cinema that needs to be heard.”

Banks plays “an aspiring twenty-something rapper who wants a career in hip-hop but is torn by her parents’ dreams that she finish college,” Deadline reports.
