Tonight’s NBA matchup came to us from BROOKLYN, NY as the Nets hosted the Miami Heat.
Inside Barclays Center however, was more than just a basketball game. Tonight fans and the entire Brooklyn Nets organization paid tribute to the man known as Jeffery Gamblero; a truly passionate and dedicated Brooklyn Nets fan. His life was remembered tonight with a video montage, moment of silence, and to a pleasant surprise, the Brooklyn Nets players came out in #44 Gamblero t-shirts. A really classy act by the Nets organization. Win or lose, this game is in remembrance of Jeff.
1st quarter action saw excellent ball movement by the Nets with great offense but Miami’s Dwayne Wade started off hot with 8 straight points. Brooklyn and Miami would continue to battle on the court tying the game and taking the leads away from each other. Mirza Teletovic entered the game for the first time since his facial injury last week and immediately contributed with a 3 off the bench. Miami would end the quarter on an 8-0 run 33-25.
2nd quarter underway and the Nets had a small hole to climb out of to regain the lead. Miami would go up as much as 10. Plenty of missed shot opportunities for the Nets didn’t help their cause as Miami, despite massive turnovers increased the lead to 13, 49-36. Brooklyn would go on a run showing some grit and managed to cut the lead to 10 to enter the half, 55-45.
Out of the half came Brooklyn pride. The Nets came out with a defensive presence to cut the lead to 5 forcing a Miami time out. Brooklyn continued their defensive stand cutting the lead to 1, 58-57. Miami would fight back and get the lead back up by 6 thanks to Dwayne Wade yet again. At one point Mason Plumlee went for the steal, missed and came right back with a block. Miami made a run of their own bringing the lead back to 10 to end the half 76-66.
In the 4th Brooklyn defense returned and cut the lead to 6. With 4 minutes remaining Brooklyn had to push the pace if they wanted to win. Dwayne Wade for the 3rd time tonight would kill the Brooklyn momentum, hitting a jumper to put the Heat up 92-83 with 2:14 remaining.
With only seconds left however, Brooklyn would hit two 3-pointers to be down 2 with only 35.1 seconds remaining. A Brooklyn turnover via a loose ball foul would doom the Nets as Miami made free throws to close the game.
Final score 95-91.
