Yesterday, Barclays Center hosted its first EBC (Entertainers Basketball Classic) celebrity game and the arena was star studded. The EBC managed to merge the Hip Hop culture with streetball in the heart of Brooklyn. Although starting about two hours late, fans of the street ball phenomenon were hot in their seats ready for some hardcore action.
The unforgettable night was filled with some of entertainments best including Power 105.1 DJ Clue. The four teams to battle it out for the EBC Championship trophy included New York coached by Brooklyn rapper Fabolous, DMV coached by Wale, LA coached by Kendrick Lamar and Philly coached by French Montana.
The seats were filled with some of Brooklyn’s notable Hip Hop artists like Maino and Troy Ave and Nicki Minaj’s ex manager Big Fendi. Also warming the seats were some famous streetball lovers, LL Cool J, Jadakiss, Busta Ryhmes and Teyana Taylor.
Don’t Wanna Dance singer, Elle Varner belted a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner that for sure made everyone question why her career hasn’t been taken so seriously. The R&B singer has a voice incomparable to many who try to sing live much less the many lack luster Star Spangled Banner performances by many in the industry.
The Finals came down to Team DMV taking home the wins over Team New York. Probably the only time Wale was caught with a smile the entire night.

When asked of some of Brooklyn’s best artist Maino and Fabolous in a press conference how it feels to have the EBC game in Brooklyn at Barclays Center? Maino responded, “It’s great being here. Didn’t Brooklyn invent basketball?” Â Fabolous agreed, “I think it’s dope that the game came to Brooklyn, as you can see the arena is packed with fans of the game.”
Ha! (For the record Brooklyn did NOT invent basketball. James Naismith invented the game and rapper Jadakiss made sure to make Maino’s error clear.)
Fun times all around.
