The Brooklyn Public Library is taking part in something very special for it’s borough — a contest that involves honoring books that represent Brooklyn.
The contest was organized by the Brooklyn Eagle, a local volunteer group. The Brooklyn Public Library will be sponsoring the inaugural Brooklyn Eagle Literary Prize. A prize that will be offered to two books from the past year that embody the “spirit of Brooklyn.”

According to AMNY, the prize committee co-chair Charles Duhigg, said that “The goal is to bring the public’s attention to some great books, to books that they might not know about otherwise. In addition to celebrating Brooklyn’s writers, the contest would highlight the importance of Brooklyn’s libraries, which he said are central to the community in the book-loving borough.”
The contest starts off with 30 books, 15 fiction, and 15 non fiction. Out of these 30, they are then finalized to six, three from each category. There will be a winner selected from each category that will walk away with a $2,500 prize at the annual Brooklyn Classic on Oct. 23.
