If you have ever been through the Calvin Klien VIP doors at Barclays Center then you are familiar with the elite persons that purchase those tickets. You then know about the secret dining hall that those ticket holders get to grab a bite to eat before a Brooklyn Nets game starts. Well it seems that two employees that were assigned to that Calvin Klien Courtside Club as chefs have  just slapped Barclays Center with a $5 Million dollar lawsuit alleging they were discriminated against based on race or disability.

According to the suit, Anthony Peterkin, who is blind in one eye, was ridiculed by a pair of managers calling him “Cyclops” and the “one-eyed guy”.  The other employee involved, Erick Silverman, suffers from cerebral palsy and rhinophyma (a rare disorder causing the nose to become abnormally large), his disease was mocked by a manager “placing a piece of bread on his nose and attempting to mimic Silverman’s voice” as well as claiming that his manager mocked how Silverman’s hand shook uncontrollably.

The employees lawyer, Walker Harman, stated that the employees of Levy Restaurant with-in Barclays Center work in a hostile environment and it’s not just limited to these two.  Harman also claims frequent use of racial slurs against Black employees.

According to the NYDailyNews, Barclays Center spokesperson, Barry Baum stated, “We have a zero tolerance policy for any type of discriminatory behavior in the workplace. It is against everything that Barclays Center stands for. We will immediately and thoroughly investigate the allegations made.”

This is horrific and we hope that Barclays Center is handling this appropriately.
