Tonight at Barclays Center was the final home game of 2014 for the Brooklyn Nets (13-16) as they hosted the Sacramento Kings (14-17) in their first of two meetings. Both teams were involved in trade rumors but talks have calmed since. Tonight however, was about getting the win. Let’s get to the action.
1st quarter action saw Kevin Garnett open up with great scoring and defense. The Kings were determined to not allow Plumlee settle into his comfort zone. Both teams were scoring from inside the paint while trading the lead on multiple occasions. Jarrett Jack continued with his excellent scoring prowess contributing 9 points but Sacramento went on a 7-0 run to increase their lead by 4, 28-24. Alan Anderson came in late into the quarter and knocked down a quick 3 to end the quarter down by 1, 28-27.
Great ball movement to start the 2nd quarter as Teletovic knocked down the open 3. Turnovers however, prevented the Nets from distancing themselves from the Kings early on. Deron Williams caused Darren Collinson to pick up his 3rd personal foul which only aided Brooklyn’s chances of winning the quarter and the game. Brook Lopez finally came out of his scoring slump and got back-to-back baskets and a free throw. With 7 Sacramento turnovers, Brooklyn would go on a 11-0 run to go up 57-44 to end the quarter.
3rd quarter action started off poorly for the Nets who picked up 2 fouls within 8 seconds and allowed the Kings to go on a 7-0 run, cutting the lead to 6, 51-57. In what’s certain to highlights, Sergery Karasev missed an open 3 pointer, KG tipped it right back to him in the same spot and Karasev knocked it down. Soon after KG would make a steal, run and pass it to Karasev in the open court and Karasev passed it back to KG for the 2 handed jam to the cheers of the packed Brooklyn crowd to end the quarter.
4th action began poorly for the Nets again as the Kings managed to go on another run to open the quarter. There would be some old chemistry in Williams, Johnson, and Lopez to add tack on more points for Brooklyn. The Kings however, would not go away and managed to cut the lead to 5 following a Rudy Gay 3-pointer. Mirza Teletovic would respond with 2 consecutive 3 pointers and a Plumlee field goal to put the Nets up 11, 101-90. Kings would play the foul game in the final seconds but time would be against them. Nets bounce back and win 107-99 to improve to 14-16.
Nets will play against Chicago on Tuesday 12/30 at 8pm in Chicago.
