The Nets came into tonight having an opportunity to win 2 consecutive wins over a top tier team in the eastern conference, the Washington Wizards. Nets really had control of this one but lost it in the 3rd and 4th quarters and couldn’t recapture the lead. Both teams showed extreme fatigue but still a tight game nonetheless. Let’s get to the action.

Wizards Work Magic on Nets, Nets Fall to 17-24

1st quarter action saw the Wizards and Nets trade shots until the Nets broke free courtesy of Kevin Garnett and his wide open jump shots. Nets did a good job defensively forcing turnovers and crashing the defensive boards to take an early 3 point lead, 18-15. Lopez would score his first bucket late and get an and 1 out of it. Washington would get points off of fast breaks trying to deflate the lead. Wizards Marcin Gortat would actually tip in a basket for Brooklyn and Brook Lopez was eager to take the credit. Nets would shoot the ball at 52% for the quarter and take a 26-23 lead to end the quarter.

Joe Johnson would break open the 2nd quarter with a jumper and Brook Lopez would get another and 1. Johnson and Lopez would continue to work well together in pick and roll situations. The Wizards would manage to tie and lead by 2 on a 7-0 run until Teletovic hit a quick 3-pointer, 39-38 Nets. Nets would not allow anymore easy baskets underneath by either fouling or taking charges from any and every opponent who dared. Wizards would once again tie the game, this time at 47 but could not manage to take the lead until the wizards Pierce hit a 3 to take a 1 point lead, 50-49. The Nets would take a 1 point lead going into the half, 51-50.

Jarrett Jack got to open up the 2nd half with a disrupted jumper. Jack and Plumlee had a highlight pass and fast break dunk that heard roars from the capacity Brooklyn crowd. Nets would lead 63-60 as the midway point of the quarter approached. Washington managed to take a 1 point lead on a Gortat jumper and Nene throws down a monstrous dunk on a 10-0 run, 69-65 Wizards. The Wizards would continue to knock down shots taking a 7 point lead to end the quarter on a 21-7 run. 77-70 Wizards.

Bogdanovic hits a wide open 3-pointer to open up the 4th and Jarrett Jack would get fouled on the next possession, making their first free throws of the 2nd half.  Jarrett Jack became aggressive getting to the rim on two consecutive plays which resonated well with the home crowd. Wizards however would control the game with a 6 point advantage on an 8-2 run and continue to have the advantage as the clock winded down. Brooklyn just could not hit shots and knew the game was out of hand. Nets lose 90-99.

The Nets will take on the Sacramento Kings in Sacramento on Wednesday.
