Cameo Gallery, one of Williamsburg’s hottest music venues for rising artists to perform, was the place to be Saturday night. Located at 93 North 6th Street, Cameo Gallery held an album release party in support of rock band, Clementine of The Galaxy’s latest EP “Midnight Machine”. The high-energized concert, featured four amazing acts including Clementine of The Galaxy and openers Talia, Blind Benny, and Brooklyn’s own (by way of Ohio), Tangina Stone.

You might have heard of Tangina Stone after her smash single, Suntan, was featured on this past season of VH1’s hit show “Love and Hip-Hop”. OurBKSocial had a chance to catch up with Ms. Stone before her set:

OurBKSocial: At the age of 18 you moved from Ohio to New York City; how hard was the transition for you?

Tangina Stone: It was really difficult. I’m from a very small town, so coming here was like a culture shock. In some ways it was one of the biggest things that I’ve ever done before. When I moved here I didn’t know anybody, so it was an interesting experience to make friends and connections. Now I see that everybody in my life at this very moment, are those who are supposed to be here.

Being a rising musician, what are some obstacles that you face?

Staying motivated! Being in New York, there are tons of really great artist; so sometimes I feel like I’m one of many. I have to [constantly] remind myself that I’m different. Also, staying positive and not letting negativity get to me. Lastly, making sure that my music reaches certain people and always being ready for an appearance.

You currently live in Brooklyn; what’s your favorite thing about the borough and does the environment influence your song writing?

Brooklyn definitely influences my song writing. Brooklyn is my favorite place in all of New York. No matter where I go, I will always have a place in Brooklyn. Particularity Bed-Stuy. I love Bed-Stuy! What I love most about it, is that it’s the place where you can fall in love, a place where you can write beautiful music and just create. Brooklyn is always inspiring artists of all types.

What was your reaction when your song “Suntan” was featured on this past season of Love and Hip-Hop?

It was exciting and really fun. They played the song for a really long time, which was cool. It was exciting to watch it on TV and seeing the credits. It made me feel for the first time, that I made it! It felt like I had accomplished a major achievement in my career.

What can your fans expect from you in the near future?

They can expect lots of shows, lots of music, and a good time.

The show began shortly after and each band was given a 45 minute set to share their music with the audience. Each act performed in front of a packed house about 60 people. (Cameo Gallery is relatively small). Tangina, set right before the main events’ Clementine of The Galaxy, performed her hit singles Reasons, Cops, Lost Myself and of course her “Love & Hip Hop” featured tune, Suntan. The rising star made sure not to leave without giving the crowd a dose of her future sound with new single, Control. We’re loving Tangina Stone and she’s definitely an artist to watch.
