The long list of diverse restaurants in the borough continues to grow as former Top Chef contestant Carla Hall is bringing the country taste of Nashville, Tennessee to the mouths of Brooklynites. After months of hard work, anticipation and strategizing with her partner Evan Darnell, both launched a Kickstarter campaign, raising funds from over 1,500 supporters, to officially open Hall’s Southern Kitchen. Located at the old Whiskey Soda Lounge space at 115 Columbia Street in Cobble Hill, the restaurant will be in addition to Hall’s counter at the Gansevoort Market and her comfort food lounge stall at the Barclays Center. This is the first standalone restaurant to open under the professional chef’s name.

So what’s on the menu? It’s safe to say the restaurant described as a “slow-cooked, fast-served neighborhood eatery serving up old-fashioned southern comfort goodness,” will surely take your taste buds on a ride. For the chicken lovers, this will surely be another eatery to add to your list. Hall’s Southern Kitchen will offer chicken pieces with six different levels of heat, from “Hoot & Honey,” a mild mixture of seasonings and honey, to “Boomshakalaka” which just about speaks for its self – a spicy tear jerker. What also makes this restaurant so unique, is its vegetarian hot and cold sides like baked mac n’ cheese, candied yams and southern soup beans, to correspond with the seasonal main courses. What’s a meal with out a cold drink on the side? Similar to the food menu, the drinks will vary from custom brews from Brooklyn Brewery entitled Thelma’s Brew, craft beer from Nashville’s Blackberry Farms Brewery, and cocktails made from Bittermilk, otherwise referred to as Charleston based cocktail mixers. The grand opening of Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen is set for this Friday, June 17 and will be open from 4 to 10pm.
*Update – An earlier version of this article stated the location was in Dumbo, yet the restaurant is located between Cobble Hill and Red Hook.
