When you think of uncovering a buried treasure, you immediately believe you’ve must-of come across a gold mine, at least some jewels or old money. Well that didn’t happen in Brooklyn.

A time capsule was discovered right outside of the former MTA building on 370 Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn. The time capsule was buried 64 years ago beneath a large paving stone in a ceremony led by Mayor William O’Dwyer to commemorate the construction of the 14-story building.

Yesterday, officials unearthed and opened the metal box only to find rusted material and wet and soggy items including a blue-print of the original construction of the building and a cool nickel from the 1950s.
