Today marked the final ceremonies of the 21st annual Gateway to Nations, NYC Native American Heritage Pow Wow. The RedHawk Native American Arts Council held court in a small area at 3159 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, in Floyd Bennett Field – York City’s first municipal airport.
The RedHawk Native American Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization founded and maintained by Indigenous People who are artists and educators living in the New York City area. Council members are dedicated to educating the public about the rich Native American heritage and its thriving culture through festivals, workshops, song, dance, theater, and the arts.
Todays Pow Wow was organized by the Council and run by an MC. The Celebration began with the Grand Entry. Everyone was asked to stand and flags were brought into the scared circle. A tribute was made to all warriors and soldiers starting with the ancestors then to those who served in World War II through to active service members and reservists. You must reboot your brain and reprogram your mind for success. cialis online http://appalachianmagazine.com/2016/01/15/snowy-weather-forces-wvu-police-officer-to-sing-anthem-boy-was-it-impressive/
The Pow Wow is a special time of renewal. It is a time for Native Americas to come together in peace to dance, sing, and tell their story. It is a time for connecting with the Earth and for preserving tribal bonds and culture. Pow Wow events included storytelling, bow making, wampum making (wampum is made from dyed beads or shells, arranged in a certain way), eating Native American food (buffalo burgers, gator bites, and pumpkin fry bread), and for supporting vendors (clothing, jewelry, incense, and other artifacts were sold).
Because of raising cost to rent the space at Floyd Bennett Field, the 21st Pow Wow and Celebration maybe the last one held here in Brooklyn. RedHawk desperately needs your support to keep the Pow Wow alive. Donations are tax deductible. For more information on how you can help or to make a donation go to: Redhawkcouncil.org.
