When it comes to working out, Brooklynites don’t play games.

In a new study, exclusively shared by the New York Post, Foursquare found Brooklyn Heights to be the most fit neighborhood in New York City. In fact, five Brooklyn neighborhoods rounded out the top ten most in-shape, beating out Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx.

The phone app company that helps users discover and “check in” to the hottest places around their area took studied “each area’s same-neighborhood fitness check-ins proportionate to the number of gyms and Foursquare users who live in each neighborhood.”

The top three spots respectively went to Brooklyn Heights, Whitestone (Queens), and Prospect Heights. Bay Ridge, Boerum Hill, and Carroll Gardens also made there way into the top ten, while Rego Park (Queens), West Village (Manhattan), Forest Hills (Queens), and NoHo (Manhattan) completed the list.

What happened to all the gym buffs in Manhattan? Foursquare spokesperson Jesse Lane told The Post, Manhattanites prefer to travel outside the borough to work out.

“Part of what happened in Manhattan, where public transportation is readily accessible, is that people are more likely to venture outside their neighborhood for a specialized gym.”
