New Low-Income Housing Comes To Crown Heights For Veterans

This month marks the beginning of a new era for veterans in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
Utica Place, a newly built 12-story, 87 unit apartment tenement located on 1339 Lincoln Place and Utica Avenue has recently welcomed their first renters. Brought to you by L + M Development Partners, the new building comes equipped with a rooftop garden, laundry room, community room and an on site parking lot. Conveniently located nearby is Blink Fitness Gym, Deals and Brooklyn Kids Academy, a nursery school.
The developers designated one third of the apartment units to army veterans who make less than $23,500 a year and eight of those units, for homeless vets and the rest were filled through a lottery.
To properly initiate the new complex to the neighborhood, the residence held a ribbon cutting ceremony this past Monday while shortly after the first 15 residents began to move into their apartments.

“Utica Place is a new addition to this community and will offer affordable, quality housing,” says Ron Moelis, CEO and founder of L+M Development Partners to Multi-Housing News. “Providing homes for veterans was a priority for us and a way to say thank you. It has brought new retail to Crown Heights, and space for St. Matthews Church, a longtime institution in this community. Together, Utica is not just about new housing; it’s about being part of the neighborhood.”
In addition to the selection of amenities provided at Utica Place, there will be an on-site support service available to the veterans who reside there to help them find employment.
All residents are expected to be fully moved in by the end of the year.
