Macy’s Downtown Brooklyn is due for a change, but expectant developers might be giving us a little more than we might have expected. Back in July of 2014, Macy’s Brooklyn flagship put its building on 422 Fulton Street as well as their adjacent parking lot on the market.

Macy's Downtown To Be Transformed Into Futuristic Glass Building?

Macy’s is currently looking over potential bidders who plan to either touch up the current mega-store or build a completely new building in place of the parking garage. According to YIMPI, developer Brookfield mocked up a couple of renderings as a part of their bid for the properties. Brookfield’s first vision looks to destroy the standing parking lot and transform the space into a major expansion for Macy’s; honoring the demand for larger retail. The rendering also displays a tall and glassy residential tower added somewhere besides the larger Macy’s mock up. The second rendering would seek to keep and refurbish the neighboring parking lot and retail space and once again adding the large and glassy residential tower.

Nothing is set in stone and this is only one developer’s rendering. How would you like to see that area of Downtown Brooklyn be expanded? Keep in mind Macy’s requested that bidders include a 300,000-square-foot redone retail space along with 25,000-square-feet for a future Bloomingdales outlet store.
