Love Jones – The Musical, a stage adaptation of the popular 1997 film, is headed to Kings Theatre for a special two-night event.

Originally released as a movie starring Larenz Tate and Nia Long, Love Jones became an instant classic that captured the imagination of an entire generation. Now, the much anticipated adaption will be produced by veteran theater producer Melvin Childs of Produced By Faith with stage play written by Timothy Allen Smith and directed by Zadia Ife. The film’s original writer and director, Theodore Witcher, serves as a consulting producer.

On Saturday October 22 and 23, the black love story will be reimagined through music and has a pretty solid line-up. Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, Marsha Ambrosius, Brooklyn’s own Mc Lyte, Dave Hollister, and Raheem Devaughn are all set to star in the show.

If you’re wondering if this will be anything like your typical Broadway show, NY Weekly states that Love Jones – The Musical is “a wonderful cross between a concert stage play and a movie live on stage.”
