Charlotte Hornets Sting Brooklyn Nets, Fall to 25-34

The Hornets came out looking to blowout the Nets at home and that’s exactly what they did. This game was billed as a battle of two teams in a must win situation as both teams were tied for 8th place in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Hornets had their game faces on and the Nets simply didn’t.

1st quarter, Brooklyn would control the tip but Charlotte would control take the first points and open up a 11-2 lead over the Nets. Frustration would ensue as Lionel Hollings received a technical foul. The Nets would soon find themselves in a 29-6 hole only hitting under 20% from the field. Charlotte was getting any shot they wanted while Brooklyn was missing everything they tried. Thaddeus Young would come in and immediately contributed. The Nets were completely out of sorts at the end of the 1st quarter. Where are the New Brooklyn Nets?

2nd quarter, the Nets would start off with a field goal and finding themselves at the line. Charlotte would continue to out-rebound the Nets and boo’s soon rang down from Barclays Center. Mo Williams simply embarrassed the Nets all by himself. Defense returned to the Nets and the 23 point lead was cut to 13 after a Thaddeus Young 3 pointer, 44-31. Brooklyn would close out the quarter strong outscoring Charlotte 29-21, showing that the Nets will not quit. Nets would end the quarter down 12, 56-44.

3rd quarter, the Hornets started off the quarter the same way they did the game, strong. The Hornets would regain their 20 point lead 66-46. Nets would try to make a run but would hamper themselves by causing fouls, turnovers and everything unlike the team we saw after the ALL-STAR break. Brooklyn would need a monster comeback quarter as the Hornets would outscore the Nets 32-22 in the third.

Different quarter, same story. Hornets simply wanted this win and were going to do everything to make sure they walked out with the victory. The score was 106-74 under the 6 minutes remaining. There were boo’s depressed faces, upset fans and it was just as cold outside Barclays Center as it was inside for the Nets. This is not the Nets team we saw Monday night Nets lose 115-91. The Nets will hope to rebound from this rather they must for Fridays game against the struggling Phoenix Suns.
