Could we be receiving a car that operates on its own in the near future?
Apple, the technology giant, seems to be working on a self-driving prototype or just a street mapping system to compete with Google Maps. While Apple has not confirmed exactly what they’re working, according to Claycord, who first spotted the vehicle in San Francisco, stated they asked the driver of the unmarked van what they were doing but the driver refused to answer.
The suspicious van was videoed in Brooklyn recently as well. According to 9to5mac, the van made by Dodge has 12 cameras on top of the car, making it questionable as whether its a new mapping system or a test for a self-driving car. “Too many cameras,” said technology analyst Rob Enderle, speaking to CBS. “It has cameras that are angled down at all four corners of the vehicle.” Yet, only six known companies have permits necessary to test self-driving vehicles and Apple isn’t one of them.

If in fact it’s only a new street mapping system, we could see it as soon as the iOS 9 update to release later this year, though we like the sound of a self-driving prototype better. Time will tell.
