On Day 27 of Black History Month we recognize Imani House.

IMANI HOUSE, INC. (IHI) is the award winning, non-profit organization that provides youth and family development programs in Brooklyn, New York and Liberia, West Africa. IHI was founded in 1986 and is known for its free, enriching, and innovative youth and family support services. Founder and executive director, Bisi Ideraabdullah – a Brooklynite says, “we believe that everyone can succeed if they are motivated and have access to appropriate skills, information, and opportunities.”

IHI serves more than 3,500 people providing after-school programs, summer camps in public schools, Adult Literacy classes for immigrants and people in need of GED’s, and various referral services. The Brooklyn headquarters is located at 76A 5th Avenue between St. Marks Place and Warren Street in Park Slope. In Liberia, IHI serves approximately 15,000 and continues to save lives by providing much needed health care services for women and children: vaccinations, pre and post natal care, wound care, and treatment of infectious diseases. When the Ebola virus crisis erupted in 2013, IHI expanded their services then reached out to surrounding areas informing communities of the importance of getting tested. Liberia was first declared free of Ebola transmission in May 2015, according to the World Health Organization.
