Garry Marshall's 1984 Film 'The Flamingo Kid' Is Headed To Broadway

Garry Marshall’s The Flamingo Kid will get reimagined as a Broadway musical. The show, expected to debut Spring 2018, will have music by Scott Frankel and book and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman of Broadway’s 2014 Tony Award-winning BEST MUSICAL A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.

The 1984 coming-of-age film stared Matt Dillon as a teenager from Brooklyn, unhappy with his modest life, takes on a flashy summer job at a private beach club for rich Long Islanders. he then falls in love and contemplates his life after college.

Though no casting has been announced, music from 1963 will be included in the movie’s stage version.
