This summer is sure to be one you will remember. If you have not yet visited Luna Park in Coney Island, you are already missing a huge treat! On May 29, 2010 Luna Park opened its doors on the same spot where Astroland was located. Luna Park has over 19 new attractions and tons of games and this summer is readies its new roller coaster!
The Thunderbolt, which is slated to open its first ride on May 22, has been at the park before! The original Thunderbolt operated from the 1920 to the 1980s. It was made up of wood and wasn’t as exciting as the new edition hopes to be. The original also can be seen in the hit 1977, Woody Allen movie, “Annie Hall”.
The NEWÂ Thunderbolt will take riders on a vertical lift, a 115-foot vertical drop, then a 100-foot vertical loop and five inversions at around 55 miles per hour. No worries, the coaster will be made up of steel, for all of you still scared to ride the Cyclone. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?
