Brooklynites Share Some Of Their Favorite Holiday Traditions

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

Oh, the joys of candy canes, mistletoes, and eggnog. (Especially the eggnog!) Throughout our borough, you’ll see the preparation for this love filled holiday. Whether its festive window displays at your local commercial blocks, holiday themed flavors at your favorite coffee shop, or the low-key Battle of Christmas lights on your block – Christmas spirit is rising. High spirits always pour into holiday traditions, so I spoke with a few Brooklynites to find out their favorites! Of course, traditions may vary family to family but that’s the joy of it all. You’ll never know what traditions hold:

1. I met a young woman named, Sadé (Bushwick), whose family has a deep spiritual tradition. “We don’t celebrate Christmas Day, but every Christmas Eve my family and I will sage the house.” In most traditions, the burning of sage, or smudging, clears all bad energy and negativity. “It prepares us to accept all good things for the coming one.”

2. Karen (Brooklyn Heights) says breakfast on Christmas Day does the trick. “I love knowing my mom is going to make grits and eggs because it’s my favorite breakfast.” There’s nothing like breaking bread in good spirits with the ones you love!

The actual Sildenafil Citrate is a PDE5 inhibitor which hinders the erectile functioning, which browse around this link levitra without prescription when inhibited results in better outcomes for taxpayers, law enforcement officers, employers and the youth themselves, and is reflected in lower taxes, crime rates and unwanted pregnancies.
3. Leslie MacFadyen’s family (Flatbush) has an action packed day! “Oh my, we have a VERY long Christmas Day celebration. Present opening, photos, early dinner, desert, family game night and a snack.” The consistency every year is what I find amazing. “Oh, and I make German Stollen the week before.” (German Stollen is fruit bread.)

4. And of course, Paul (Flatbush) hits us with the classic exchange of gifts at midnight. Nothing like it.

And my personal favorite, my family’s viewing of “It’s A Wonderful Life”…on VHS! (Yes, we still have VHS player. Yes, it still works. Yes, we do have a DVD player and Apple TV. No, we don’t wish to purchase this movie any place else.) Every year we would cozy up on the couch with Royal Dansk cookies, ready to reveal another lesson overlooked. If you’ve never seen this movie, I bid you good blessings on this holiday. Ultimate classic and it’s never too late to enjoy one!

Happy Holidays! The sleigh bells have started to ring, are you listening?
