If you’re going to go fishing, you might as well make sure you catch a prize winning fish.

Brooklyn Teen Catches 1,058 Pound Blue Marlin Fish

Kai Rizzuto of Brooklyn, New York caught the biggest fish of his life off the coast of Hawaii this past Wednesday. The Blue Marlin, caught in Kona coast, weighed in at 1,058 pounds. Kai, who visits his grandfather in Hawaii every year, is used to catching big fish but none bigger than 55 pounds.

“He has quite a bit of experience in big game fishing, but this was the first time that he has been the guy on the rod and reel for a blue marlin,” Jim Rizzuto, Kai’s grandfather told CNN.

Once caught, the extraordinary fish was jumping out of the water trying to free itself from Kai’s fishing line. The fish took Kai around 30 minutes to catch and put on his boat and four people to successfully take off the boat.

The gigantic blue marlin will be used for food and is expected to fee about a couple hundreds of people.

“Blue marlin is a high-quality protein. They have been eaten here forever, so when we get a very special fish like this, you turn it over to a fish cutter that makes sure everyone who wants a piece gets a piece,” Kai reports.

Although Kai’s catching was gigantic, it was still 300 pounds shy of the 1982 world record for blue marlin caught. Incredible!
