President Barack Obama is expected to choose Brooklyn prosecutor, Loretta Lynch to replace Eric Holder as his next US Attorney General, CNN reported earlier today.
Lynch, 55, is an experienced prosecutor with lots of experience in both civil rights and corporate fraud cases. If nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate, Lynch would be the first African-American woman to hold that position.
Sources explain that if Lynch were to be chosen, she would generate little controversy and make a smooth Senate confirmation process.
Her nomination would be one of the first big changes for Obama to announce after Republicans won control of the Senate in congressional elections on Tuesday. Loretta Lynch was also one of several candidates Eric Holder had recommended to succeed him.
