The 3rd year of the ‘Battle of the Boroughs’ kicked off in front of a full house at Barclays Center as the Brooklyn Nets faced off against their inner city rivals, the New York Knicks.

The rivalry reengaged with the Nets showing remanence of Wednesday night’s loss against the Timberwolves by registering 5 turnovers in the first 4 minutes giving the Knicks and early lead. Things quickly turned in the Nets favor as a determined and confident Brook Lopez controlled the opening quarter and continued his dominance registering 20 points by the end of the night. The Vic’s, as in Bogdanovic and Teletovic, knocked down a momentum killing amount of 3’s. Speaking of 3’s, most of the Nets became unconscious from behind the arc, shooting 14 for 24 from downtown.

The Nets lead at the half, 55-42.

Unquestionably the Nets defense took a toll on the Knicks all night long causing 14 turnovers, shot clock violations, and poor shooting including making the Knicks miss 8 out of 9 shots during one stretch. Even Knicks rookie head coach, Derek Fisher, felt the defensive frustration as he was assessed a technical.

A pair of 7’s went at it all night as the Nets #7, Joe Johnson and Knicks #7 Carmelo Anthony challenged each other on both ends of the floor scoring 18 and 19 respectively. And what about Deron Williams? If there is still any doubt about Deron Williams having the ability to become the player he once was, that kind of talk should have finally been put to bed tonight. D-Will scored a Nets season high 29 points while dishing out 6 assists making him the best player in Brooklyn tonight. The Nets lead by as many as 21 but the Knicks tried to come back in the 3rd quarter with a run of their own. However, the Nets offense and defense proved to be too much as the 1st of 4 ‘Battle of the Borough’ games cemented the Brooklyn Nets with a Win. The final score, 110-99. The Nets improve to a 3-2 record for the season.
