Brooklyn Academy of Music To Expand With $25 Million Project

The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is getting a major facelift — so major that it costs $25 million. The costly addition will complete the BAM campus, add permanent visual art galleries, and new patron amenities.
Located in the Fort Greene area, the Brooklyn Academy of Music is known for it’s contribution to the community as it offers an array of different amenities and activities such as film, dance, theatre, opera, galas, parties and more. The academy dates back to 1861, and for more than 150 years, it has housed and showcased the work of emerging artists and ideas.

According to The New York Times, “Work is to begin shortly and will continue over the next two years, with completion scheduled for September 2017.” There will be a new balcony seating in the Harvey and a one-story structure at 653 Fulton Street between BAM’s sites at 651 Fulton Street and 230 Ashland Place, that will include a cafe on the ground floor. Mr Fishman, the academy’s chairman stated that “while BAM has presented visual art programming before, this project represents an effort to do so in a more deliberate, continuing way. If we get it right, it will make the visual arts program that much more interesting.”
