Commuters received the surprise of their lives when part of a Brooklyn subway station’s ceiling collapsed.

A little before evening rush hour on Wednesday straphangers waiting for a Manhattan-bound 4 and 5 train at Borough Hall reportedly heard a loud bang then witnessed massive debris fall from the ceiling.

A local on the scene, Eric Chan detailed the incident on social media.

“I heard a loud bang, I turn around, and a part of the ceiling collapsed. This was on the Manhattan bound 4/5 train platform near the front end.” Chan wrote in a tweet to the New York City Subway’s Twitter handle. “There was a lady standing close to the platform edge and her suitcase got knocked over from the debris, I hope she’s okay.

FDNY reported a 50-year-old male suffered minor injuries as a result of the cleaning collapse. The unidentified man was struck on the shoulder and refused medical treatment at the scene, according to CBS News.

Gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon — who’s been very vocal about the subway’s broken system — tweeted, “Earlier this month, I stood exactly where the ceiling collapsed today to announce our plan to #FixOurSubway. What’s it going to take to fix our broken infrastructure.”

Manhattan-bound train service on the 4 and 5 lines had been bypassing the Borough Hall Station for repairs. Normal service resumed around 7 p.m. on Wednesday with residual delays.
