One Brooklyn mom turned her tragedy into triumph for a number of families.

Wendy Cruz-Chan tragically lost her son Killiam, through stillbirth at 19 weeks, after contracting a rare uterus infection. Chan realized even after losing her son, her body still continued to produce milk, therefore she decided to donate it.

On October 9, Chen detailed on Facebook her journey:

Chen, who has another child, initially wanted to pump for three months. But after pumping 1,000 ounces — almost eight gallons — in just two months she decided to double her goal for the third month.

“I wanted to turn something tragic into something good,” Cruz-Chan told InsideEdition.

Through her work as a doula, Chen was able to find a number of families in need of milk for their babies.

“I realized through donating that it gave me a purpose to do something good to help me with the healing process,” Cruz-Chan said. “It just makes me feel good seeing all the babies I’ve been helping.”

Since reaching her goal, Wendy has begun to wind down her milk production so she could take necessary drugs to prepare herself for her next pregnancy.

“Seeing those babies thriving from my milk really helped me through my healing process. I’m going to miss lactating. I wanted to show that even after a tragic stillbirth, you can turn that into something positive and inspire those around you,” she wrote on Instagram.
