Prospect Park To Receive 13-foot Bronze Captain America Statue

A 13-foot-tall bronze Captain America statue, engraved with a Captain America: The First Avenger quote “I’m just a kid from Brooklyn,” is headed to Prospect Park.

According to USA Today, the statute that commemorates Steve Rogers’ (Captain America) 75th anniversary will be unveiled at Comic-Con International in San Diego from July 20-24 before traveling  cross country to its permanent home in Prospect Park on August 10.

The statue that literally weighs a ton was designed by Comicave Studios, who worked with Marvel artists to perfect the superhero’s pose. “For the past 75 years, Captain America has inspired generations of fans serving as the ultimate global icon for freedom, strength and doing the right thing,” Paul Gitter, senior vice president of licensing for Marvel at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, said to USA Today.

Marvel’s social media channels are expected to keep fans abreast on the statue’s journey to Brooklyn after San Diego Comic-Con.
