Brooklynites Come Out In Droves To Support The Flint Water Crisis

Brooklynites are taking action as several neighborhood organizations have collaborated to donate clean water to the struggling city of Flint, Michigan.
The Flint water crisis that began in April of 2014, originated after Flint government changed its water source from treated Detroit Water and Sewerage Department water to the Flint River. The river included a chain of problems that rapidly occurred, including lead contamination which led to various health issues within the city. From this, between 6,000 and 12,000 children have been exposed to drinking water with high levels of lead which may eventually lead to a health issues, as well as a possible outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease. The disease has already killed 10 people and affected 77.
As unfortunate as it is to witness citizens of Flint deal with this massive crisis, it’s an amazing thing to receive support from other parts of the country. The various Brooklyn organizations that held a water drive this past Sunday and selflessly came together with high hopes that their continuous work will be able to help save, and restore the city of Flint, was incredible. According to event organizer, Lashonda Randolph, she explained the collection started with a Facebook post expressing her concern regarding the crisis. Eventually, it gained so much attention that she took the liberty to team up with the All For Uniting Social Club and several other organizations to lend a helping hand.
