What were you doing at the age of 22? One young man is thinking BIG and acting on it. 22 year old, Dylan Gioia is the newest owner of Brooklyn’s ABA (American Basketball Association) team, the Brooklyn SkyRockets.
Gioia, who still lives in his mother’s Marine Park apartment, graduated last year from SUNY Cortland with a degree in sports management and business economics. Just six months later he made a grown man’s choice by forking over a one time membership fee of $10,000 (of course in monthly installments of $250) to now own his on professional ABA team.
For those who don’t know much about the ABA; the franchise have over 90 teams. ESPN just signed a deal to stream some of the games that have almost a five month season. The ABA is also greatly know for sending some of the players to the NBA D-League and to the over seas markets. Just another tidbit, the New Jersey Nets (way before they relocated to Brooklyn) were part of the American Basketball Association before the team merged with the NBA. It’s as real as it gets for the basketball dreamer who has not made it to the NBA.

The SkyRocket’s season starts on November 15th at 3pm against the Steel City Yellow Jackets. All of the home games will take place at Aviator Center.
