‘Between The World And Me’ Author Ta-Nehisi Coates Decides Not To Move Into $2.1 Million Brooklyn Home After Address Goes Public

Journalist and best-selling author Ta-Nehisi Coates recently purchased a $2.1 million Prospect-Lefferts Gardens home, that he now won’t be moving into.
After the New York Post broke the story of Coates’ extravagant purchase, not leaving out the address and interior photos, the author and his family became worried about their safety after they’ve had prior run-ins with crazed fans at their current home. According to the NY Times, the Between The World And Me author and his wife used a limited-liability corporation to protect their identities during the purchase but somehow news of the transaction still leaked.
“Within a day of seeing these articles, my wife and I knew that we could never live in Prospect-Lefferts Garden, that we could never go back home,” Coates wrote at The Atlantic, where he is a national correspondent. “If anything happened to either of us, if anything happened to our son, we’d never forgive ourselves.”
Coates, who has lived in in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens with his family since 2001, documented at The Atlantic why he moved to the neighborhood in the first place.
“Prospect-Lefferts Garden is a lovely neighborhood marked by quiet streets and some of the most beautiful architecture in the city. There are several blocks lined with perfectly preserved limestones and brownstones. There is a strong sense of community,” Coates writes. “Block parties are a tradition. And for those of us who fear the suburbs, Flatbush Avenue hums at the neighborhood’s border. When we moved into the neighborhood, it was predominantly black. A haircut was a two-minute walk away. Great jerk chicken was everywhere. My best friend from college lived on the same block. On Friday evenings you could find us out on his stoop with Jack and Coke in hand (which we drank that back then), watching the world go by.”
Coates is currently working on a reboot of Marvel’s first black superhero comic book series, The Black Panther, though the success of his best-selling Between The World And Me book contributed grately to his new home purchase. With success the writer was brought a lot more attention. Media outlets went as far as searching through his son’s Instagram account and publishing his wife’s name.
Coates has not yet stated if he would sell the home, but he has guaranteed that he would not be making the move.
This is an excellent example of why journalists all across this country are looked down upon as being the lowest class scum there is on this earth. If I was a journalist and someone asked me what I did for a living I would tell a lie which is easy for a journalist.
