Thousands of protesters marched across the Brooklyn Bridge to rally against gun violence on Saturday morning.
Led by student group Youth Over Guns, community leaders, locals and stars including Susan Sarandon and Julianne Moore joined together and marched across the bridge before then demonstrating in lower Manhattan. The NY-based youth group formed after the deadly mass shooting at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February.
Survivor of the Parkland tragedy Aalayah Eastmond addressed the crowd while marchers wearing orange and white shirts carried signs that said “Vote them out”, “Slay the NRA” and “Arms are for hugging.” Other marchers carried a symbolic white casket.

The march was one of several taking place around the country to protest gun violence and urge lawmakers to pass stricter gun laws.
“I think it’s disgusting how easy it is for people to get a hold of guns. I think there should be better restrictions. I’m not against people owning guns for protection but I am against people owning semiautomatic weapons,” Kathryn Como, 51, from Flushing, Queens told the NY Daily News.
“We shouldn’t have to hear this all the time. I’m tired of this. I shouldn’t be scared to walk with my grandson outside,” Patricia Glenn, 60, of Crown Heights Glenn said to the publication. “That’s part of the problem now. Nothing’s being done. We’re out here because they’re doing nothing over there.”
Glenn lost her daughter Cierra to gun violence on Oct. 30, 2010 when Cierra was just 25-years-old.
