The Perfect BK Neighborhoods For 90s Sitcom Families

While many of the shows like Family Matters and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are famous for the houses they were filmed in, many don’t actually know that Will and Uncle Phil taped in a mock home in Los Angeles and Laura and Carl Winslow filmed at an actual home in Chicago. What if we all moved them to Brooklyn? How funny would it be seeing The Banks family walking down a street of Crown Heights, or Martin and Gina in a restaurant in Bedford-Stuyvesant?

Let’s see what neighborhood each family would fit perfectly into.

The Steve Harvey Show: Williamsburg

There’s no better place for Steve and Ced to reunite the Hightops for a fun filled performance of “When The Funk Hits The Fan” than the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Williamsburg has a huge eclectic music scene that allows music lovers to enjoy an array of music genres from hip-hop to hard rock. The neighborhood is also THE perfect place for Mr. Hightower’s music class to flourish from juvenile delinquents to perfect pupils.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Bedford-Stuyvesant

With all the major changes going on in Bed-Stuy, the Banks family would fit perfectly. As the Brooklyn neighborhood becomes the IT spot for wealthy families, it still has that down to earth,  cultural vibe that long time residents enjoy. Cousin Will, the street-smart teenager from West Philadelphia would feel this was an upgrade from Bel-Air. He gets the have the best of both worlds, even a number of local basketball court (that he promises this time wont get him into any trouble).

Martin: Clinton Hill

Carl Winslow and Crown heights make a perfect pairing. Carl’s love for sweets would make him a regular at Elsie’s doughnut shop and the ever growing coffee mart rolodex would be his best friend. A spot on the NYPD task force could also be great for the experienced sergeant but definitely come with its challenges. As for Steve Urkel, everyone would know the smart yet extremely clumsy comedic and thou Steve would live in a small apartment in Park Slope, he would always find himself at the Winslows brownstone to of-course try and woo Laura.

Moesha: Downtown Brooklyn

Downtown Brooklyn provides Moesha everything that she needs to live the life she is accustom to. From the shopping amenities, where she could keep her up her eccentric style, to the perfect hangout spots she constantly compares to “The Den,” to the Barnes N Noble bookstore where she spends hours filling her head with Zora Neale Hurston classics and dreams of her huge journalistic career. And good news for Q, now that Moesha lives in Brooklyn, dating her would be 100 times easier; that’s if Mr. Mitchell allows it.

Sister Sister: Bushwick

Bushwick is the perfect location for these popular twin sister’s awkwardly different lifestyles. The neighborhood’s artsy vibe makes Tia’s love for learning and quirky style, feel right at home. Lisa’s flawlessly unique abilities as a seamstress would have her thinking about opening her own fashion boutique along Myrtle Avenue and Tamera would get lost in the neighborhoods lively social nightlife. As for Ray, he decided to work for UBER until he can get his limo service back up and running.
