Join BHS as they celebrate the official online publication of Brooklyn Historical Society’s Muslims in Brooklyn oral history collection. Led by BHS oral historian and project director Zaheer Ali and project coordinator Liz Strong, Muslims in Brooklyn brings to light the stories of Muslims from all over the Borough. Spend the evening listening to a curated selection of interviews which together paint a first-hand picture of how Muslims have both shaped and been shaped by life in Brooklyn.

In this special tribute to legendary playwright and poet Ntozake Shange, experience readings by poets Staceyann Chin, Aja Monet, and Simone White, and a performance by Umar Bin Hassan, Baba Donn Babatunde, and Abiodun Oyewole, the founding members of The Last Poets. Hosted by poet, educator, and activist Mahogany L. Browne and presented in conjunction with our special exhibition Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power.
