One thing in life that is guaranteed is change! After 52 years of educating the youth, catholic high-school, Bishop Ford, has lost its fight to stay open. After the administration learned that it was approximately $4 million dollars in debt, they quickly announced that the school will close at the end of June.

Bishop Ford High School was founded in 1962 and was named after a Brooklyn-born missionary who developed a church following in China. The once all boys school started admitting girls in 1976 to enhance enrollment. But since 2006 enrollment has since plummeted to 499 students this school year from 1,347 in 2006. Decreasing enrollment, means less tuition being payed, meaning bills going unmet. So many New York City Catholic schools are closing down because of improving public schools and the rise of some amazing Charter Schools. With the rising cost of everything, parents can no longer afford private schools and rather save their money for their child’s college tuition. It’s sad that a great Brooklyn school has to go under and we can only hope that the students and many teachers that are left to look for another option can find one.
