Kings Adult Care Center is in the hot seat again this year.
GRAVESEND—Kings Adult Care Center is facing a lawsuit from the mother of a former patient, who she claims the facility lost her son and initially didn’t know where.
While being escorted to a routine medical appointment in Park Slope, Wayne Anhalt, 50, managed to slip away from the attendant and went missing on August 31. The following day, his mother Fredda Anhalt, 76, went to the facility to visit him only to learn her son wasn’t there.
Employees at the facility told Fredda he slipped away through the Cropsey Avenue exit, rather than being lost approximately 6 miles away in another neighborhood. It took the facility six days to correct their mistake.
“I didn’t know if he was alive or dead. He had no cell phone, no money. I was just beside myself,” Fredda told the NY Daily News, who first reported on the incident.
Things weren’t only tough on Anhalt’s mother, but the NYPD as well. Due to Kings Adult Care Center’s negligence, the initial search was harder for the police department.
“This is a completely different ballpark – we’re talking a different precinct that should have took the report than the one that did,” Fredda told the paper.

Wayne was found living on the streets of Brooklyn on September 21. It wasn’t specified who made this discovery but he was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he remains, ensuring he is medically treated for the weeks missed.
Fredda is taking legal action against the facility for obvious reasons, but also because this was the second time her son has gone missing under Kings Adult Care Center’s supervision.
Kings Adult Care Center was also in the news back in January for another senior patient who managed to slip out of the facility and go missing.
“This fabrication caused plaintiffs considerable harm and anxiety, and caused the focus of the search efforts to be concentrated miles away from where Wayne was last seen,” states the lawsuit filed by attorney Dennis Kelly on Monday at Brooklyn’s Supreme Court.
