Straight Outta Brooklyn, the legendary Los Angeles rap group, N.W.A., will be inducted into the 2016 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. The rap group led by the late Eazy E., Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, will join a quartet of 1970s era FM radio rockers — Chicago, Cheap Trick, Deep Purple and Steve Miller to be inducted on April 8th, live from Barclays Center.
After three years of unsuccessful nominations, the timing for the rap group’s induction couldn’t be any more perfect. Dr. Dre and Ice Cube took the world by storm after dropping their hard core film about the group’s rise to fame in the 80s in Straight Outta Compton. The movie grossed over $60 million during opening weekend and was #1 in over 2,000 movie theaters in the United States and not to mention the streams of Oscar buzz.
“It’s hard to sum up exactly what it means. It means a lot of things,” Ice Cube tells Rolling Stone. “It means that the group’s mark is kind of solidified. It’s all legitimized in a way because the whole music industry has to honor the group in a way. It’s just hard to sum up in words, really.”
While this undoubtably seals the deal on how monumental N.W.A. (Ni**as With Attitudes) was during the height of the Los Angeles riots, begun by the unforgettable tragedy of the late Rodney King — an unarmed African-American taxi driver pulled over and nearly beaten to death by the LAPD, a historical reunion performance would be the icing on the cake, and may not be a dream that won’t come true.

“I think we can get Ren, Yella and Dre together. I think Snoop might do an honorary Eazy [E]. I can’t speak for him, but we’ll ask him. We’ll probably ask a few people,” Ice Cube goes on to say.
HBO is set to air the event a few days after the show in April.
Congrats to N.W.A.!
