Could the Brooklyn Nets defeat the Los Angeles Clippers, who defeat them by 39 points back in January in Los Angeles?
In the opening quarter the Nets managed to get on the boards first but both teams just couldn’t get it going offensively. In fact, each team had only 2 points in more than 4 minutes of action. Deron Williams would check in for the first time since early January to the roar of the crowd. Williams got his first chance at a shot, since being back and banks a 3-pointer. The Clippers would take control at what looked to be a repeat of January 22nd, Los Angeles victory. However, the Nets would fight back and tie the game before the quarter ended, 22-22.
In the 2nd quarter the two teams would battle it out, each not wanting the other team to gain a significant lead. Brook Lopez’s presence was felt as he made shots, difficult and easy. Brooklyn would take a 3 point lead with just over 3 minutes remaining (34-31); thanks to Brook Lopez’s 2-handed jam and a long 2-pointer. Lopez scored 18 points before the quarter ended. Both teams struggled to make shots again down the stretch however, the Clippers cut the lead to two before heading into the half, (38-36).
Opening of the 2nd half, Matt Barnes of the Clippers would hit a 3, gain a steal and score a layup to put the Clippers up 3. Jamal Crawford provided the Clippers with deadly offense. As the Clippers were looking to build a lead and run away with the game, the Nets cut the lead to 4 (56-52). Later in the quarter, a 3-point contest broke out on both teams until the score was tied 67-67. The Brooklyn crowd was reasonably louder tonight than any other in recent history. Matt Barnes made a layup off a missed Deandre Jordan missed free throw. Clippers up 71-70.
Deron Williams opens up the 4th with a much needed layup. Clippers would take a 5-point lead until Bogdanovic hit a 3 pointer from the corner, 77-75 Clippers. Both teams would battle but the Clippers finally clicked and extended their lead to 11. The Nets just couldn’t get anything going and even tried to intentionally hack Deandre Jordan, to no avail bringing the Clippers to do the same with Mason Plumlee who wasn’t able to score a single point tonight.
Brooklyn would storm back with 3’s and would be down by only 2 points with under .24 seconds remaining. Alan Anderson goes for a 3-pointer, hits it, and gets fouled by Griffen who fouls out. Anderson hits the extra point to give the Nets a 100-98 lead. Clippers’ leading man, Chris Paul, would score a layup to tie the game at 100 with 08.6 seconds remaining. A nervous Brooklyn team would get the ball to point-guard, Jarrett Jack who would hit the game winning jumper and give Brooklyn a 2 point advantage with 01.3 seconds left! The Los Angeles Clippers would have a final swift attempt, but nothing. Brooklyn goes on to win their first home game of 2015 on a 12-2 run. #WeAreBrooklyn!
