What a year it has been for Jason Collins of the Brooklyn Nets. From his extended contract with the basketball franchise to being one of the most respected players for coming to terms publicly about his sexuality now named one of TIME magazine “100 Most Influential People.” Jason Collins is a game-changer and surely deserves the recognition!

TIME revealed its annual list this week, with Collins listed under the “Pioneers” section. He is paired among the likes of outspoken Seattle Seahawks star Richard Sherman, stem-cell researcher Robert Lanza and SEC chairwoman Mary Jo White.

Collins’ testimonial was written by the former First Daughter, now pregnant, Chelsea Clinton. Her mother happen to make the list s well. Power! She had met Collins in their first year at Stanford University together.

She writes,

“Not surprisingly, the first thing I noticed was his height. The second thing I noticed was his kindness off the court — and his fierceness on it. Kindness to his friends, his family and fans. Fierceness in his drive to win. Jason has always been focused on others, on what’s right for those he loves, and on helping those whose jersey is the same as his. Jason’s kindness and fierceness alike derive from that word too often bandied about and too rarely true: integrity. Jason has always maintained he’s first a basketball player. He is. But he’s also a leader and an inspiration. For Michael Sam, Derrick Gordon and others whose names we may never know. And also for those of us lucky enough to be fans — or to call him our friend.”

Jason Collins took to twitter stating his utter excitement, “This is so cool. Thank You.”

I’m sure living life to your true self makes you a happier person. Thus having happier people and situations drawn to you!

Congrats Jason! You deserve it!
