Wow, the MTA is giving something for free? Don’t hold your breath, it’s only for a limited amount of time, but take what you can get. This summer for five weeks, starting July 26th, the MTA will give riders FREE above ground transfers between stations in Williamsburg. Train riders will be able to transfer from the “G” train at the Broadway station to the “J” or “M” trains at the Lorimer station. So yeas you do have to walk a couple of blocks but you will not lose a fare.
Because of repairs due to Superstorm Sandy there are three stations at the northern end of the G line, including Court Square and 21st St. in Queens, and Greenpoint Ave. in Brooklyn. So that train riders don’t have to pay twice for a ride they would have only paid one fare for, the MTA was kind enough to do this for us.
Don’t get use to this, the MTA is known for being stingy. There are many trains which don’t connect that are only a few blocks away from each other that should be given this right of a free above-ground transfer. With the MTA it’s really Wishful Thinking!
